"Yes, and..." Grady Team Members Learn Improvisational Skills

The Grady team works together during the game "Animal Ad Agency".

During the December 9 Community Manager's Meeting, Shawn Westfall of Commedia Partners LLC worked with more than 70 Grady Management team members to teach improv techniques and exercises that strengthen and enhance communication, positive interaction, and conflict resolution.

Mr. Westfall, an accomplished improv teacher in DC for over a decade who also recently opened a new improvisational comedy theater, began the Community Managers' meeting by introducing several short form improv games similar to those found on the popular television program "Whose Line Is It Anyway?"  These games, such as Hot Spot, Emotional Symphony, and Party Quirks, not only provided entertainment but also broke down several important improv lessons including the "yes, and...", the act of accepting the information given and moving forward in a scene.  These lessons were subsequently explained to be applicable in real life interactions.

After a two hour session of improv, the Community Managers' meeting concluded with the presentation of the 2015 Grady Cup and Vanden Broecke Cup winners.

Winning the Vanden Broecke Cup was Parke Cheverly located in Hyattsville, Maryland.

Winning the Grady Cup was Preston Place located in Winchester, Virginia.

The winners of these highly coveted awards are featured below:
